About & data
Colorado Draw Odds turns Colorado Parks and Wildlife's thousand-page draw reports into something you can search in seconds. It's free and it doesn't need an account.
Data sources
Everything comes from CPW's public elk statistics page:
- Primary draw recaps 2015–2026: applicants and successful applicants at every preference point level, for every hunt code, by residency.
- Secondary draw reports 2021–2026: licenses offered in the June secondary draw and how many were left for the leftover sale.
- Harvest estimates 2019–2025: hunters, harvest and success by unit (and by hunt code from 2025).
- Post-hunt population estimates by herd (DAU).
- The 2026 Big Game Brochure for valid units, lists, dates and over-the-counter units.
CPW's website no longer links draw recaps before 2021. Our 2015–2020 copies come from an archive of CPW's original files; its 2021 file is byte-for-byte identical to the one CPW publishes.
Every hunt code's numbers are checked against the totals printed in CPW's own report before they're published here.
How odds are calculated
Your odds are the share of last year's 1st-choice applicants with your exact points (and residency) who drew. When nobody at your level applied, we use the cutoff: above it counts as a sure thing, below it as no chance. Odds are history, not a promise — quotas and demand change every year.
Updates
Draw results are added each May–June when CPW posts them; harvest estimates each spring. Last data update: 2026-11-07.
